Understanding Mounting Options

The mounting system you choose dictates how your holster attaches to your belt or other platforms. Different systems offer varying degrees of security, speed of detachment, and compatibility with other gear.

Available Mounting Options for the Nidhogg Holster:

  1. RTI (Rapid Tactical Interface):

    • Description: The RTI system utilizes a male and female interlocking plate system. The male plate is attached to the holster, and the female plate can be mounted on various platforms like belts, MOLLE attachments, or drop legs. This allows for rapid attachment and detachment of the holster without tools.
    • Pros:
      • Extremely fast and easy to attach and detach the holster.
      • Allows for quick transfer of the holster between different mounting platforms.
      • Secure and reliable connection when engaged.
    • Cons:
      • Requires compatible RTI female mounting platforms.
      • Adds a slight amount of bulk to the holster.
      • Can be more expensive than direct belt mounts.
    • Ideal For: Users who frequently switch their holster between different belts or platforms, or those who prioritize rapid removal and attachment.

The RTI option only includes the Male System attached to the holster. ANR Does not provide female mounting plate.

2. Safariland QLS (Quick Locking System):

    • Description: The Safariland QLS is a widely adopted two-part system consisting of the QLS 19 (fork) and QLS 22 (receiver). The QLS 19 attaches to the holster, and the QLS 22 mounts to your belt or platform. This system allows for quick and easy detachment and reattachment of the holster with a simple push of a lever.
    • Pros:
      • Industry-standard quick detach system with excellent compatibility.
      • Very secure and reliable connection.
      • Allows for cant (angle) adjustment of the holster.
    • Cons:
      • Requires both the QLS 19 and QLS 22 components.
      • Adds some bulk to the holster.
    • Ideal For: Users who want a secure, quick-detach system with broad compatibility across various gear setups.

  1. Safariland QLS and Q22:

    • Description: This option is essentially the same as option #2, explicitly stating that the holster will be set up with the QLS 19 (fork) attached, but also include the QLS 22 (receiver) that you would mount on your belt or platform.

  1. Blade-Tech Tek-Lok:

    • Description: The Blade-Tech Tek-Lok is a durable and adjustable belt attachment that clamps securely onto belts of various widths. It features a hinged and locking mechanism for a strong and reliable hold.
    • Pros:
      • Very secure attachment to the belt.
      • Adjustable for different belt widths.
      • Relatively low profile compared to some quick-detach systems.
      • Durable and long-lasting.
    • Cons:
      • Requires tools (screwdriver or similar) for removal and attachment.
      • Not as fast for detachment as RTI or QLS.
    • Ideal For: Users who prioritize a secure and adjustable belt attachment and don't frequently need to remove their holster. Also ideal for users who prefer the holster at a waistline draw height.

  1. Standard Tac Belt Mount (Bolted Directly to Holster):

    • Description: This is the most direct mounting method, where our standard tac belt mount is bolted directly to the holster body. This provides a secure and low-profile attachment.
    • Pros:
      • Very secure and stable attachment.
      • Minimal bulk.
      • Cost-effective.
    • Cons:
      • Less flexibility for switching between different mounting platforms.
    • Ideal For: Users who primarily use one tactical belt and prefer a secure, low-profile attachment without the need for quick detachment.

  1. Short Tac Belt Mount (Bolted Directly to Holster):

    • Description: Similar to the standard tac belt mount, this option utilizes the shorter version of our tactical belt mount. This configuration positions the holster higher on the belt.
    • Pros:
      • Very secure and stable attachment.
      • Minimal bulk.
      • Higher ride height, which may be preferred by some users for accessibility or comfort.
      • Cost-effective.
    • Cons:
      • Less flexibility for switching between different mounting platforms.
      • Higher ride height might not be suitable for all body types or preferences
        • Ideal For: Users who prefer a higher holster ride for easier access or to clear other belt-mounted gear, and who primarily use one tactical belt.

Choosing the Right Mounting Option:

Consider the following factors when selecting your mounting system:

  • Frequency of Holster Removal: If you frequently need to take your holster on and off or switch it between platforms, RTI or QLS are excellent choices.
  • Compatibility with Existing Gear: If you already use a specific mounting system on other gear, choosing the same system for your Nidhogg holster will ensure seamless integration.
  • Security Requirements: All listed options are secure, but Tek-Lok and direct belt mounts offer a very firm connection.
  • Bulk: Direct belt mounts offer the lowest profile, while quick-detach systems add some bulk.
  • Ride Height Preference: Standard and Short Tac Belt Mounts offer different ride height options.
  • Budget: Direct belt mounts are typically the most cost-effective, while complete quick-detach systems may be more expensive.
